Online Tools to Help You Manage Projects

As a small business owner, you might have worried about all the what-ifs that could come into play if a disaster were to occur. Precisely what does it mean whenever we talk about a disaster? It could mean a natural disaster destroying all of your data, a simple download of a virus that corrupts your systems, or an employee accidently deleting something they shouldn’t have. Whatever happens it can be hard and cumbersome to recover from. Develop a disaster recovery plan to ensure that if the time ever comes, you’ve got a plan in place so that you can get back on your feet as quickly as possible.

Decide What’s Important

The first step is to decide what data is vital to your organization. What data needs to be recovered quickly for your company to run? This will tell you what you need to back up.

Make a Plan

The second step is deciding the steps that must be taken to get your company back on its feet as quickly as possible. Consider the worst possible scenario and the way to recover from that. Which systems must be restored first and what technology will be required to do this?

Know Your Workflows

I’m sure you have a general understanding of the way your organization is run, but knowing every single process is virtually impossible. That’s why you have employees. Have your employees document their workflows so that any team member can perform the tasks in the event of an emergency.

Decide Who is in Charge

Many people panic when disaster strikes. To make sure the panic doesn’t make things worse, put someone that has helped you develop the plan in charge of carrying out your data recovery plan. This way you are available to reassure everyone and manage the company and you can be the strong leader your employees need in time of crisis.

When we hear of disaster people often think it can’t happen to them, but we never know what is around the corner. It’s important to be prepared. Having a strong disaster recovery plan will not only make you feel more secure, but will comfort your employees as well.
