I’ve been getting a lot of calls from companies that are wanting to increase the amount of business they get from their website, or be number one when searching in Google. It’s thrilling to know that companies are finally hearing about ITworks and using us as a trusted source for their technology needs! I’d really like to set the record straight on SEO and clear up some of the myths surrounding it.
First of all, there’s no way to guarantee you’ll be on page one, or the first result. If a company promises that to you, run! Fast! Think about this logically, if there were a sure-fire way to land myself on page one, don’t you think I would’ve done it? And if that were the case, don’t you think every company would be doing it? SEO is a constant uphill battle. Google and other search engines are constantly evolving, and changing how they “grade” websites daily. This means that your website also needs to be in a state of constant change, with regular updates.
Next, SEO is not the only thing you need to do. If you really want to drive potential customers to your site then you’ll need to work with a marketing professional to create ad campaigns for you. You’ll need press releases, online advertisements, and social media all working to drive traffic to your website. Don’t believe me? I went about 2 months without regular social media campaigns. Only once I started blogging, tweeting, and facebooking regularly is when I started seeing steady increases with my website.

I received your newsletter through a mutual friend and it led me here. Great information. Say you were going to higher a company that does strictly does SEO, wouldn’t a good way to find them be to choose a company that is on the first page? They obviously figured “it” out and can guide you there. Just a thought because I did higher a company to do SEO and it did help, 2nd & 3rd page on most keywords. However I stopped with them after 2 months just to see how long the effects would last. They didn’t last long. SEO is something that is constant…you are constantly doing it or constantly paying a company to do it for you!
